In paticular at the moment there
is a bad spate of aggrivation and threatening behaviour around
the area of the Post Office and the homes of the Elderley. This
is nothing new really but is certainly getting worse. Within
the last week all the phone lines to the shops were cut by mindless
youths, they congregate to drink, smoke, and generally make
a noise and disturb the elderly residents. They run along the
roofs, throw boulders at the doors and windows, if anyone comes
out to confront them they are verbally abused and laughed at.
<p>You hear of these things on the news on the telly but
do you realise it's happening on your doorstep, good grief these
people deserve a bit of respect and peace during their time
of retirement.People who live there are writing to me and getting
people to email me but all I am is a website I do not have any
authority and control over MATRA group. I can only pass on or
write here your concerns and worries. It could be your parents
living there in poor health.
Everyone of us with children
have a responsability to know where they are and what they are
doing, this is the age old story of people not knowing what
their kids are up to because I am sure that the parents when
they became aware would put a stop to their childs anti social
behaviour, ok we are sticking a fancy name on it but it still
adds up to "kids being allowed to run wild" and no
one wants to stop their fun, but come on, threatening and frightening
people in their 70's and 80's, cutting important phone lines,
let's get real. It is not just the elderly though who suffer
at the hands of the mindless few, the other week Bob was walking
down to a Partnership meeting at the Matra shop when two kids
passing shone a lazer light into his eyes. Now this might seem
innocent enough but Bob ended up being ill all night, blood
shot eyes, violent headache and had to visit the doctor 8.30
next morning where they rang the hospital and he was given special
cream and is still under supervision. This might sound a trivial
act but foolishness at the risk of quoting the bible is "
bound up in the heart of a child".....the consequences
can be far more outreaching that you imagine.
It goes without saying that
we can only admire the work the HLC has been doing and the workers
and volunteers in that area. But it is true to say that organisations/groups
on the estate do not see what goes on because they are not here
24 hours a day so it does not directly affect them. The only
way your going to get help is by letting them know and when
you get an opportunity like this when Marchog is asking your
oppinions then please speak up.
Today is remembrance day and
if it wasn't for the like of such elderley people all our lives
would be very different today. So when your kids come home why
not give them a reminder ,if they have to go around that area
to at least restrain from following the antics of the mindlesss
few, at least that way there will be one less to worry about.
The answer has got to be YES, we certainly need a warden or
police patrol before the vigilantes are back taking care of
the job and then you would complain.
UPDATE 19/11/03
Sunday the 16th Nov. A young
girl of 12 was walking through Maesgeirchen near the Glan Cegin
School area and near the CCTV Camara when she was approached
by a group of mixed teenagers older than herself approx 15 years
of age. They verbally abused her and then physically attacked
her to the point she was punched and kicked on the ground. A
gentleman passing in his car saw what was going on and stopped
to try stop the "fight" as he thought and was appauled
to find it was his daughter on the floor receiving the unprovoked
beating. Police were involved and are aware of this incident
since it was reported by the parents.
Monday
20th Nov. Same girl, walking home, same
area was once again approached and abused, again physically
assalted. Again Police have been informed outcome your guess
is as good as mine.
UPDATE 11/11/03
I was emailed this morning to say that
the wires in the old people's bungalows that connect them to
the "emergency" help line, incase they fall or need
help were also cut.....what dire consequences could that have
brought if someone needed help?
For some photo's of the wire damage pop over to the 007 page.
UPDATE
10/11/03
Tonight I have heard that this weekend
a block of flats in Tan y Bryn were set alight by vandals while
the occupents were inside. The intruders forced entry to the
block and started the fire which was only found when one of
the alarms went off and an upstairs tennant came to investigate.
They then alerted all the other tennants until the fire and
police came to take care of the fire. It is no good closing
our eyes and saying " Isn't Maesgeirchen getting a better
place now we have all these groups here" well it might
be getting better if you could jump in the car and go home to
somewhere else at 5 in the eveing and on weekends but if something
is not done and no don't ask me because I don't know the answer,
a legal one anyway. Someone somewhere is going to possibly lose
their life through stupity and vandalism that is going uncontrolled.
A very sad situation.
If you have something you would like reported on this site,
an act of vandalism or damage, maybe your being constantly plauged
by rock throwing, verbal abuse as in the Llys Dylan area then
drop me a line and we shall start making out a list to present
to MATRA and the Community groups to see what support can be
had and pressure be put to make sure these Camera's are working
properly and a Police/Warden patrol in the evenings when it
matters.
This weekend including tonight the lights in Penrhyn Avenue
are not on, in 3 days nothing has been done about rushing to
put them back on. It is not so long ago money was invested to
update street lighting in certain areas. Amazing ............I
am lost for words! did I hear you say at last?
