Cydcoed Project Complete's (17/8/2003)

June saw the second pathway dug out and tarmac laid on the Cydcoed Project at the Bishops Mill Old road end of Maesgeirchen that leads to the river and the bridge crossing. This new path is at a lower angle and more appropriate for prams, pushchairs, and disability vehicles to use. The Bridge was reconstructed and is now suitable for disabled scooters, and prams etc, also easy access to the cycle path for bike's. The gate was put in place which will allow access for disabled via the Radar key and also leaves enough access for prams and cyclists but without the threat of motorbike's roaring up to meet you along the pathway as there is now no easy access for them.

Here are some of the photo's which were taken during this work. I would also like to mention that living near to the area we were able to see the extra effort that these contractors put in to try make sure the work was not destroyed. It is always a mystery why some youth think it is such a clever thing to destroy anything which might make life more pleasant for others and themselves. I wonder if the parents saw what they were up to whether they would be more concerned about what their kids were doing when out of sight. One thing is for sure, if you think you can't see what your kids are doing there is always someone who can. You only have to hope they are not putting you to shame. You would be surprised how many kids ( 11-14) were only to happy to throw boulders onto the new pathways and leave them scattered there. It was brought nicely to their attention that if someone came down on a bike, maybe one of their mates and hit a rock full on some very serious injury's could be had. Then you had the contractors and Jimmy O'Neal who stayed extra hours into the dark 11 at night etc to make sure the kids who arrived with crow bars to destroy the newly built walls of the bridge just couldn't succeed.
