Twelve sporting
organisations in Gwynedd benefit from the Sportlot Community Chest
fund
The Gwynedd Sportlot Community Chest awarded grants to 12 sporting
organisations during their latest meeting at Porthmadog on 9-6-03.
It was particularly encouraging to note that a variety of different
sports were supported, which included croquet, horse riding, table
tennis, basketball and triathlon. Two of the panels priority areas
of support, people with disabilities and women and girls were also
well represented.
The successful recipients were:-
The Gwynedd Table Tennis League to buy essential equipment in order
to form a new senior and junior table tennis league.
Pwllheli Football Club to set up a new Under 12 girls section, which
includes new football leaders and first aiders.
Clwb Rygbi a Chwaraeon Trefor to qualify new rugby coaches.
Gwynedd Branch of the Pony Club to provide their members with improved
training opportunities.
Women's Institute Federation of Meirionnyddto introduce croquet,
a new sport, into their programme by means of weekly coaching sessions
during the summer.
Clwb Pelrwyd Porthmadog to set up a new senior netball league in
the mid Gwynedd area.
Padarn Tri Club to set up a taster day for open water swimming,
host a new childrens aquathon and qualify first aid personnel.

and qualify basketball coaches.

| MaesG.ABC. ( Maesgierchen Amateur Boxing
Club) |
|
It is now approximately 2
years plus since I spent many hours, many late night hours at
that, weeks and months, working on a site for the Maesgeirchen Boxing
Club. I had got much of the details of that club, how it was brought
into being by founder members and trainers Jim Stenson and Brian
Williams. How it had, without any help from outside influences
or organisations managed to produce 7 champions from their little
garage on the Estate. At this moment in time I have now lost all
the information I had after someone who thought they knew what
they were saying demanded I take the site down. I knew I was in
the right and had spent months writing to individual boxers both
in the UK and the States asking for permission to use their photo's.
The one's who replied were very kind and oblidged. However, I
was treated so badly that I took the site down. But that is now
all water under the bridge, the lads of the Club neither Brian
or Jim can be held responsible for the actions of someone else.
So I mention here while I have a chance that MaesG does have it's
own Boxing club.
I am amazed that even though
in the last year we have had many groups and organisations come
up onto the Estate, and while many good things have been done.
Nothing has been done to give the Boxing Club a building they
can use themselves, somewhere they don't have to keep up their
kit etc or the ring, and somwhere that does not lay down the rules
of how and when they can access or use the place. I know one thing,
if my son ( if I had one ) had joined this boxing club, had shown
enthusiasm to get off the streets, and into a sport I would now
have been sitting on doorsteps and Council building steps until
someone heard me, I would have been shouting loud enough that
the Welsh Assembly could not fail to hear me.After all, isn't
this what Mr Blair wants? If you are in some sort of influential
position and reading this, and if you have reason to be ashamed
of the conditions these Coaches and lads work in then please do
something about it. When I had my last site up for them I had
boxing people from the USA interested in their plight. Now have
you seen the Boxing Club Caernarfon has got and I would be interested
to know how many Champions they have produced. It is state of
the art. Come on somebody somewhere, pull your finger out if it's
your job to help then help these lads. Think of the dedication,
time, hours, years, that has gone into keeping them interested
and out of trouble by Jim Stenson and Brian Williams.
