COULD AFFECT YOUR PEACE AND QUIET YOUR VIEW AND YOUR POCKET
Do you rent your house from Gwynedd Council ?
Do you know that the council may not be your landlord in a year
or so ?
Do you think that Tai Eryri, North Wales Housing or possibly
Carlton Management Services (Watkin Jones) would make a better
landlord than Gwynedd Council ?
Pay attention, this situation could be upon you
sooner than you think.
The Welsh Assembly is keen to have all council owned housing
stock renovated to a national standard by 2012.
The problem is that local councils' do
not have the money to get these jobs done, nor are they allowed
to borrow or apply for money for these improvements.
The only option available is for new landlords to take over
the housing stock, and then the new landlords
will be allowed to apply for loans, grants etc.
In theory all the houses belonging to the new landlord will
be spick and span by 2012.
Whilst this move to a new landlord will directly affect those
renting their homes from Gwynedd Council, there will also be
consequences for those who have bought their houses in Maes-g
and Tanybryn.
Some of the questions for home owners and tenants to ask are
:-
Will the new landlords really give a damn about who they decide
to move into this area ?
Will this estate end up as a dumping ground for those people
that other areas don't want ?
How much of our spare land will these new landlords take to
build even more houses ?
They will promise rent increases in line with inflation, or
a rent that shadows the costs of improvements,
how long before the rents are un-affordable ?
What redress will the house owners have if their properties
are devalued because the new landlord lets spare houses to undesirables
?
There are probably another hundred questions to be asked, can
you think of any ?
There is a meeting at H.L.C. on 29th
October that is to be attended my MATRA members and
other
groups to hear how the stock transfer process works. The meeting
is hosted by T.P.A.S Cymru.
(Tenants Participation Advisory Council )
The meeting commences at 9am and will finish about 3.30 pm.
PLEASE BE THERE AND DON'T WAIT
UNTIL ITS TOO LATE AND TALK THEN.
